FERRVOR

Not only known for his looks and well-carved physique, Jesse Metcalfe is one of Hollywood’s most-notable and driven men, and a charismatic one at that.

Jesse is confident, almost bordering on overly confident, so I’ve been told, and so getting a good interview out of him was indeed a nice surprise. But then again, you need to ask yourself, what successful, well groomed talented man isn’t mucho confidente’? What I learned is that Jesse is a man of many talents and a gentlemen who loves the arts as much as he loves the gym.

Jesse is largely recognized from his roles in: Desperate Housewives (earning him a Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series), the hit TNT show, Dallas, and Dead Rising: Watchtower.

When he’s not modeling for any number of magazines, including Men’s Fitness and August Man, Jesse also sings and plays guitar, honing his craft at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.

He first got a small break as Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on the NBC soap, Passions, where he eventually caught the attention of Hollywood execs that lead him to roles in the above mentioned Desperate Housewives and a lead in the romantic comedy, John Tucker Must Die.

Jesse, thanks for taking the time to sit down with Ferrvor. We’re both fans of fine automobiles, both the classics and muscle cars, so I have to ask, if you were a car, what kind of car would you be and how would you describe yourself?

Well, I do believe you are what you drive. And just like people evolve, so does my taste in cars. I just picked up an ’87 Mercedes 560sl to drive around for the summer. So I guess right now I see myself as mature, yet sophisticated. Classic-cool.

I’ve heard that before as well, our personality’s can be reflected in the cars we drive. On that note, if you were to take that Mercedes 560SL out on a Friday night, what is your go-to-outfit?

Black jeans, Saint Laurent boots and a vintage leather.

You’re relatively young at just 36 ,and have had a nice number of roles under your belt, what’s been your favorite to date?

Well, I bring a lot of myself to every role I play, so they’re all special and important to me in one way or another. The role that’s my favorite is usually the one I’m currently working on, or from my latest project. In my last film called “Destined,” due out this spring, I played two different versions of the same character which was really cool. I can’t wait for people to see it.

Looking forward. To that end and probably a little cliche’, but what dream role would you like to tackle?

As an actor you get asked this question a lot, and I usually answer by saying I’m interested in any type of character as long as it’s someone who speaks to me emotionally or inspires me in some way. But I’ve always felt a strong connection to Elvis Presley, who had an extraordinary life and career which is still very much shrouded in mystery. I still feel like he’s yet to be truly captured in a performance on screen. I’ve been told I resemble him, and I also sing and play guitar, so who knows…maybe one day.

That would be cool, I’m a fan of “the King” myself, so good luck with that. Hope that can be made. We meet a lot of actors and models who have moved to Los Angeles from all over the states to pursue their dreams, you on the other hand are from Cali – a native Californian, and so that begs the question, what’s the best part about living in Los Angeles?

That feeling of being in the coolest place on Earth. Old Hollywood…The Sunset Strip, The Chateau Marmont, the Spanish Mediterranean villas in the Hollywood Hills. LA inspires me everyday.

Couldn’t agree more. Dead Rising: Watchtower came out earlier this year, and it looks like it was non-stop fun. How was the experience working on an action film?

“Dead Rising” was a great experience, I think mainly because everyone involved was so passionate about the genre and about bringing this very successful video game franchise to life on screen in the most authentic way possible. It was also my first role as an action hero, which was an absolute blast! I did practically all my own stunts and loved every minute of it. The film’s definitely an edge-of-your-seat, thrill ride that the true gamers out there can be proud of.

We asked a few of our Ferrvormag Instagram fans what they would ask you and we got this response. In three words, tell us who Jesse Metcalfe is.

Generous, ambitious and creative.

As a mens fashion magazine, we always like to get the skinny on who are everyone’s favorite designers and so which designer would you choose for your outfit for a big event?

Tom Ford.

Good choice, our creative director, Kaleb will be happy to hear that.

We all know that you are one of Hollywood’s men that consistently stays in great shape. In fact, we’ve heard you had a hardcore workout routine so you could perform your own stunts in Dead Rising: Watchtower along with MMA training. What do you do to keep that positive mindset flowing?

Staying positive, healthy and balanced takes effort. It’s something that I’m always conscious of, and for me, it starts with my workouts. It’s a great way to release stress, clear your mind and get centered in your body. Whether it’s weight training, Mixed Martial Arts or yoga, I begin everyday with a workout. But you can’t neglect the spiritual either. In this crazy, competitive industry, full of triumphs and rejection, accolades and criticism, you have to maintain a strong mind…or you won’t last long in this town.

We’ve heard that many times from successful actors like yourself and so it’s worth repeating for our readers. Attention, actors in training, maintain a strong mind, stay in shape, keep focused and a positive mind and you’ll be on your way to the success you deserve.
